Crown and Bridge- Preclinicals

Course Objective: 

This Clinical Course aims to enable the Dentist to perform tooth preparation on the teeth for porcelain-fused to metal (PFM) and Zirconia (All-ceramic) crowns and bridges. The course also aims to teach impression techniques for Crown and Bridges. The course helps in excelling the tooth preparation skills for different teeth and types of crowns and taking accurate impressions. 

Why Pre-clinical?

Before performing the procedure on the patient, the dentist should be an expert in the basics of the procedure, the skills required, and the prevention and management of all possible errors. A dentist can NEVER learn on a patient. 

Before performing the procedure on the patient, preclinical practice is crucial in building confidence and thus, preventing the risk of errors and increasing the chances of success of the treatment. This is why pre-clinical practice is an important part of the BDS and MDS course curriculum. 

Course Outcomes

• Master the steps to prepare the tooth for placement of PFM and Zirconia crowns using Biomechanical principles of Tooth Preparation
• Learn and practice impression techniques for fabrication of Crowns and Bridges 

Course Details

The learner will get to practice the steps of Preparation of Crown on 12 extracted teeth /typodonts under the observation or guidance of an expert Prosthodontist. The learner will also practice impression techniques for the fabrication of PFM and Zirconia Crowns. All the steps will be performed using Dental Loupes. The last two preparations of your course will be like a test, where you have to finish the preparation within 30 minutes.

• A set of burs

Course Prerequisite

Completing the series of online video lectures of docMEP’s Basics of Crown and Bridge course.
